Heidi Martin was born in Denver, Colorado where she grew up from 2003 to 2020. Struggling in school with general subjects like english, math, and science she found happiness through her passion to create. In 2021, she officially decided to pursue a career in art starting with an education at Colorado Mesa University. Initially looking to become a children's book illustrator. However, after taking one ceramics class she fell entirely in love. Finally finding a medium where she could truly create anything she had ever dreamt of and has never looked back. Now as she continues to develop her technique her main body of work has shifted to confronting the struggles of insecurity through ceramic animal sculpture.

Through my ceramic sculptures, I aim to create a space where viewers can see reflections of themselves, their friends, partners, or family members. Each animal in my work is unique and crafted to relate with various topics of human insecurity, providing a mirror through which viewers can confront and understand their own feelings. As a human being, insecurity is a universal experience whether that person has felt insecure once to it continually becoming a common part of someone's life. It manifests in many forms, from concerns about physical appearance to doubts about personal choices and tastes. These feelings stem from social standards, personal experiences, or internalized beliefs. Rather than using humans to confront these insecurity's, animals bring a sense of familiarity and simplicity that allows the viewer to confront and access complex emotions more comfortably. In addition to the animal figures, I incorporate printing as a key element of my art. The printed marks on each sculpture symbolize the traces/mark of insecurity that the animal figure has encountered. These marks represent not just the challenges and vulnerabilities faced by the figure but also highlight the beauty that develops from overcoming the struggles of insecurity.
